The StingRay Sound with an Extended Low End

The StingRay has built its reputation around a bass sound that is powerful, immediate and remarkably easy to recognize in a mix. The StingRay Special 5 expands that formula with a fifth string, giving players access to an authoritative low B while maintaining the attack and definition that define the StingRay sound.
This particular bass uses the classic single-humbucker configuration, keeping the instrument focused on the direct, muscular character that made the StingRay famous.

Neodymium Humbucker + 18-Volt Active EQ

The Music Man humbucker uses neodymium magnets for strong output, clarity and definition. Combined with Music Man's 18-volt 3-band active preamp, the StingRay Special 5 offers plenty of clean headroom and substantial tonal control.
Volume, Treble, Mid and Bass controls let you shape the instrument from warm and supportive to aggressive and cutting without losing the fundamental StingRay personality. A 3-way lever selector adds further flexibility to the single-pickup configuration.

Roasted Maple Neck & Ebony Fingerboard

Music Man pairs a select roasted maple neck with an ebony fingerboard on this Anomalous Green configuration—a combination that looks fantastic against the body finish and gives the bass a fast, precise playing feel.
The neck features a comfortable 34" scale length, 11" radius and 1 3/4" nut width, while 22 high-profile wide stainless-steel frets provide excellent durability and a smooth playing surface.
Music Man's sculpted 5-bolt neck joint also improves access into the upper register while maintaining the stability for which the StingRay design is known.

Anomalous Green

The finish is a major part of what makes this particular StingRay special. Anomalous Green has a bold, contemporary appearance that immediately separates this bass from the more traditional StingRay colors. Paired with the ebony fingerboard and chrome hardware, it's a striking combination in person.
And this is the exact bass shown and offered by Northeast Music Center—serial number K10642.

Built in California

The StingRay Special 5 is built by Ernie Ball Music Man in San Luis Obispo, California. Modern lightweight hardware, refined body contours, a roasted maple neck, stainless-steel frets and the 18-volt electronics package bring the StingRay firmly into the modern era while retaining the identity that made the original design famous.
