1982 Greco “Mint Collection” EG58-120 (EGF-1200) – Cherry Sunburst Nitro, Brazilian RW, Dry ’82 PAFs, MIJ FujiGen, Super Real
Offered here is an exceptionally built and rare 1982 Greco Mint Collection EG58-120—essentially the EGF-1200 under the then-new “Mint Collection” designation. Finished in a vibrant Cherry Sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer, this example features a strikingly figured flame maple veneer top, among the finest we have sourced. Notably, it is fitted with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard(!) with hand-scraped fret-edge binding and is equipped with a matched set of hand-wound “Dry 1982” PAF-style humbuckers, delivering outstanding vintage character and clarity.
Included in the sale is an aftermarket brown Les Paul Shaped hardcase, as pictured.
Highly sought after by collectors and players alike, the EG58-120 represents the pinnacle of Greco’s 1982 production and was built at the legendary FujiGen factory. Originally priced at ¥120,000—confirmed by the intact sticker on the rear of the headstock—this model closely aligns with the EGF-1200 while incorporating additional vintage-correct details. These include a long-tenon neck joint, celluloid inlays, and a richly amber-tinted nitro finish that imparts authentic vintage character. Further enhancing its desirability are the coveted “Dry 1982” PAF clones and the increasingly scarce Brazilian rosewood fretboard.
This model stands out for its faithful adherence to late-’50s Les Paul specifications. The subtly ambered nitro finish enhances both visual depth and tactile response, while the expertly rolled fretboard binding—evocative of original ’50s instruments—offers superior comfort and authenticity over earlier Greco iterations.
After 42 years, the guitar has aged gracefully and is in excellent condition. It remains structurally sound with no breaks or repairs, and all components function flawlessly. Cosmetic wear, including minor surface marks consistent with age and carefully documented in the accompanying photos, contributing to its genuine vintage appeal. The ’59-profile neck is in excellent condition, and all 22 frets retain ample life, ensuring smooth and effortless playability. Nickel hardware shows natural patina, complementing the instrument’s overall vintage aesthetic.
The cream neck pickup ring has developed cracks but remains fully functional and the bridge pickup cover has been removed, exposing the double black humbucker underneath. All original pots and onboard electronics are intact and operate correctly. Sonically, the “Dry 1982” humbuckers deliver the open, woody, harmonically rich PAF tones for which they are renowned—widely regarded as among the finest PAF-style pickups ever produced.
This one weighs in at 9.3lbs..
It’s been expertly cleaned and setup by Ben of Beej Guitar Repairs with a fresh set of 10-46 strings.
