From The Manufacturer:

Key Features and Performance:

  • Bright, Clear Sound: The Perception 220 is known for its bright, clear sound, which can be great for vocals and some instruments.
  • Top-End Boost: It has a built-in high-end boost, which can make vocals sound airy or breathy. This can be a positive for mixing, as it often means less high-end EQ boosting is needed
  • Flat Mid-Section: The mid-range is relatively flat, providing a solid foundation for the overall sound.
  • Tight Low-End: The low-end is described as tight and clean, which helps with clarity.
  • Build Quality: The microphone is praised for its sturdy, all-metal construction and robust shock mount.
  • Versatility: While it excels with vocals and some instruments, its versatility can be pleasing.
  • High-Pass Filter & Pad: It includes a high-pass filter (low-cut switch) and a -20dB pad, allowing for flexibility in different recording situations.
  • Considerations:
  • Top-End Boost: The high-end boost might not be suitable for all vocalists or instruments, especially those with a lot of sibilance or high-mid energy.
  • Noise Floor: The microphone has a relatively high noise floor (16 dBA), which can be a concern in very quiet recording environments.
  • Versatility: While a good all-around microphone, it might not be the best choice for every single instrument or recording scenario.
  • Overall: The AKG Perception 220 is a solid choice for a home studio, particularly for vocals and instruments where its bright, clear sound is desirable. It offers good build quality and features like a high-pass filter and pad, making it a versatile option for many recording situations.

1. 5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic sound quality, a must have. I can't speak with much experience behind me but here's what I can say; I set out to start my recording with a budget of $250, and after reading every review on every site on every mic, I finally decided after months of research on this one..and I do not regret it! Quite simply, it does what a microphone was meant to do..it records the sound like you hear it, a nice clean slate ready for mixing or just as is.
Here's what I've noticed about this guy;
-it's got some weight to it, 'does not feel cheap at all
-the switches make getting the right sound a breeze
-the blue color is just cool..
-the XLR connection is sturdy
-it's got to be worth at least twice it's price
-the shock-mount is metal and strong and locks the mic onto it
-the mount also has an adapter in it for a smaller mic stand or something
I recommend this to anyone on a budget, any podcaster, guitarists..vocalists..anything.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sing to your hearts content!Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2015Verified PurchaseObviously not the flashiest or most expensive mic out there, but this mic does a great job at capturing the voice accurately on a budget price.
It's nice that it offers the 20db pad and the high pass filter, but I rarely find myself needing to use them. I have even used this single mic to capture both vocals and guitar at the same time, and as long as you know the basics of how to place one of these puppies, it did a fantastic job.
I would definitely buy again, although I likely won't have to because this thing feels built to last forever.
