Back in the 1990s (1993 to 1997)I was blessed because Eddie Van Halen asked me to give him feedback on Peavey Wolfgang Standard and Wolfgang Special prototypes. I was happy to share my opinion with Eddie. It was a fun experience to be in the loop and tell him what I thought of the new guitars after playing them for 2 weeks. Indeed, for me it was immediately evident there was an incredibly high quality built into the Wolfgang that I was enjoying. ( I did not know Jim DeCola was the designer of the guitars at the time)
By this time I had known Eddie a few years, and there was a mutual trust and respect. I am sure that my feedback was of great use and eventually Peavey and Eddie won awards at NAMM. It seems that a lot of the complaints that I had about guitars Eddie had experienced too.
Basically, after playing the guitar for two weeks I told him that it was fantastic. He said that "they were getting better" each week. In the process of giving him feedback on each prototype of the guitar I did my best to be straightforward, so Eddie would have genuine info that was helpful. Eddie was a great guy and a wonderful friend.
Today I'm proud and happy to say that the designer of the guitars, Jim de Cola, who worked with Eddie in Meridian, at Peavey, and now works at Gibson, is a friend of mine. He is a good guy.
