Watch a Synth Jam with the Make Noise René 2 Sequencer

Last month, redstripedown—composer, synthesist, and friend of Reverb—showed off some of the capabilities of the Polyend Seq, Elektron Digitakt, and Expressive E Touché midi controller with an original jam. Today, he's back again with his Eurorack rig, the Touché, and the Make Noise René 2 sequencer.

Unlike a regular step-sequencer, in which each step leads to the next in a linear progression and continues on a loop, the René 2 uses a "3D Cartesian coordinate system" (an x, y, and z axis) to help users create odd, non-linear sequences.

While the original René was already prized for its two-axis, one-channel design, the René 2 allows users to sequence on both the x and y axis while using the z axis to move those plotted positions into even more unique iterations. And, it offers three output channels, greatly expanding how you use the sequencer across your rig.
