Vintage and Rare 1950 s Kay A-style mandolin. This is a very cool example of a Kay A-style mandolin - check out the tortoise shell binding for starters and blonde finish i striking and the sound is the true highlight. It’s punchy with tons of character. Has the original pickguard and comes with a hardshell case. It has few blemishes but the worst part are the teo hairline cracks on the top - see photos. The body is stable and plays beautifully but at some point the cracks may need attention but given it's age it's in amazing condition - it really is FAIR - GOOD condtion. The KAY had logo has worn off but if you look closely you still see the distinticve "K" outline on the wood.
1950s Kay mandolins are mid-century American classics known for their vintage "bark" and distinct visual styles. Built in Chicago, common models include the standard teardrop A-style, the eye-catching 2-point (Venetian style), and the coveted electrics with "Thin Twin" pickups. They typically feature solid spruce tops with laminate maple backs. This one we believe is an A Style.
