Selling an original 1961 Gibson Melody Maker. One of the last of the single cut MM’s. These early Melody Makers are really great and feel much more like a thinner Les Paul jr. This guitar has remained unbroken and largely unmodified, but has clearly experienced some pretty extreme temperature fluctuations as the finish is very checked. The finish has also chipped in various spots, including the cowboy chord area on the back of the neck. It’s not actively falling off but will continue to flake some here and there without remediation. Besides the extreme checking the guitar is really nice. The bridge and one knob has been replaced, but all electronics are original and functional. The guitar actually plays very well with tons of life left in the frets, and a larger neck profile than you typically find in 1961. Neck is perfectly straight and the truss rod is functioning at intended. Has a beautiful, dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard thats in equally as good of shape as the frets. A couple tuner shafts are bent but the tuners all turn easily and hold tune. If you’re into super vibey, well worn vintage guitars, then this has got plenty of that. For such a thin body, It’s extremely resonant acoustically but also has a punchy, full bodied single coil and that’s not always the case with melody makers.
