Edwards ESP EG-90B 90s Gisho Signature Made in Japan Black

Edwards EG-90B for sale – the signature model of Gisho, the long-time bassist of the J-rock band Penicillin, which sold millions of albums back in the '90s. Edwards, a highly regarded branch of the ESP guitar group, created this instrument strictly to the musician's specifications exclusively for the Japanese market, making this model a rare find around here.

The construction is based on an alder body and a stable, 3-piece maple neck. The neck features a very comfortable, almost satin finish, with 24 frets laid into a nice rosewood fingerboard. A huge advantage here is the ergonomics – the bass weighs just 3.7 kg, suffers from absolutely no neck dive, and provides great access to every single note.

The electronics are 100% original, featuring a passive setup in a unique configuration: a reversed P-style pickup at the neck and a bridge humbucker with coil-splitting capabilities. You get a vol/vol/tone/tone control layout, which translates into vast tonal possibilities. In a mix, the bass sounds punchy, metallic, and with a natural rock aggression, while running solely on the precision pickup makes the low-end deep and quite fat.

I'd rate the visual condition as really good for a nearly 30-year-old instrument. The black finish has only a few shallow scratches on the front, while the back of the body picked up some larger blemishes, mostly from a belt buckle. The factory black hardware is in great shape, and the tuners turn smoothly and hold tune reliably. Mechanically, the instrument is fully ready to play: the truss rod operates smoothly, the frets are in excellent condition, and the current string action at the 12th fret is a comfortable 2 mm. The bass plays easily and doesn't buzz anywhere on the neck.
