1953 Jensen P5X Alnico 5 5" Speaker in Vintage 7" Sealed Desktop Guitar Cabinet – 4Ω

Built by Retrovox Vintage Audio, this compact passive guitar extension cabinet pairs a documented 1953 Jensen P5X Alnico 5 speaker with a clean early-1970s sealed cube speaker enclosure.

The Jensen speaker is not original to this cabinet. It was originally sold as a replacement speaker and includes its original Jensen ST-105 factory box. The cabinet originally housed a 1971 CTS 5-inch speaker, but that driver was damaged beyond repair and has been replaced with this vintage Jensen.

The speaker is an original Jensen P5X Standard Series Alnico 5 permanent-magnet driver, stock number ST-105, with EIA date code 220346, indicating manufacture during the 46th week of 1953. Jensen factory documentation lists the P5-X / ST-105 as a 5-inch Alnico 5 speaker with a 3–4 ohm voice coil and 2.5-watt power rating.

The cabinet measures approximately 7 inches by 7 inches by 7 inches and features 1/2-inch walls, internal acoustic stuffing, sealed construction, brown woven grille cloth, walnut-look finish, and a rear RCA speaker input.

The result is a very lively low-watt guitar cabinet with fast attack, clear mids, smooth Alnico compression, and early vintage breakup. The compact sealed enclosure keeps the low end tight while emphasizing the focused midrange character that works so well for guitar.

This cabinet was tested with a Hotone Nano amplifier and sounds excellent for recording, desktop practice, harmonica, blues, garage rock, surf, indie, and lo-fi guitar textures.
