★Super Rare Guitar!!★
【 About This item and Sound 】
Finding an early Large Headstock Yamaha SG-1000 is already difficult. Finding one with its original lacquer finish is even rarer.
This guitar comes from the short-lived Large Headstock period, produced for only about 19 months. Its original lacquer finish was used only on trial-production models built from 1976 until around September 1977, making it one of the rarest SG-1000s ever made.
Interestingly, Masayoshi Takanaka's first Yamaha SG was also a Large Headstock, lacquer-finished SG-1000. Even the distinctive circular mark left by the pickguard support cushion matches period photos published in YAMAHA SG Graffiti (p.93).
The SG-1000 was never intended to be a cheaper SG-2000.
It was Yamaha's vision of the ultimate original design set-neck & humbucker guitar and the direct successor to the legendary SG-175. From its introduction in 1976, it featured innovative ideas such as the "Direct Circuit" and "Bi-Sound System", showcasing Yamaha's engineering at its best.
Among vintage Yamaha SGs, the early SG-1000 is one of the most rock-oriented.
Its maple top, mahogany body, set-neck construction and early bridge design without the sustain plate deliver excellent attack, clear note separation and just the right amount of sustain.
Clean tones are warm, natural and articulate, reflecting Yamaha's acoustic guitar heritage. The neck pickup delivers mellow, rich tones, while engaging the Bi-Sound System in the middle position creates a surprisingly wide palette of sounds reminiscent of an ES-335, a Casino, or even a Telecaster Thinline.
With overdrive, the guitar comes alive.
The bridge pickup delivers tight, aggressive rock-riff, while the middle position is perfect for powerful single-note lead phrases and crisp Motown-style rhythm work. The neck pickup sings with effortless sustain and expressive bends, producing the classic "woman tone." Switching to single-coil mode reveals wonderfully dry vintage blues tones.
A major part of that sound comes from Yamaha's original OPG pickups. Featuring Alnico 5 magnets, AWG wire, and a relatively high-output design, these pickups remain remarkably expressive. Simply adjusting the guitar's Volume and Tone controls allows you to move effortlessly from dry vintage-inspired sounds to smooth, singing long sustain.
This guitar features one of the thickest neck profiles ever used on the YAMAHA SG series. It feels similar to a late-'58 or '59 Les Paul Historic neck, though slightly flatter, and together with the Large Headstock offers an incredibly solid, reassuring feel.
At 4.37 kg (9.63 lbs), it's relatively light for a Yamaha SG, while the substantial neck contributes to its rich lower-midrange response.
In addition, the unique string tension created by the large headstock, together with the maple/mahogany neck construction and maple top body, gives this period of SG-1000 exceptional clarity and brightness while maintaining outstanding tonal balance.

【 Honest Player's Vintage 】
This guitar has been played, loved and well cared for throughout its life.
The wear on the hardware, body and neck tells the story of decades of real performances. The lacquer wear around the picking area, elbow contour, toggle switch, controls and pickguard is not damage—it is the guitar's history.
Those years have shaped not only its appearance, but also its voice.
For excellent playability, the guitar has been professionally refretted and fitted with a new nut. The original bridge pickup, whose output had weakened over time, has been replaced with a correct-period 1976 Yamaha OPG pickup.
If you've been searching for an early Large Headstock SG-1000 with its original nitrocellulose lacquer finish, opportunities like this don't come around often.
This is a true player's vintage Yamaha—ready to make music for decades to come.
