These are 1980s Neumann U87A i condenser microphones. This set has sequential serial numbers, 53475 and 53476.
These microphones were released in mid 1980s and are part of the second generation of U87s. Neumann still used several parts and manufacturing processes of the first generation. These mics have a very balanced tone. They are slightly brighter and louder than the Gen1, but very pleasant, with a more gentle tone in comparison to the latest U87Ai. Note that these were the last U87s made by the original Neumann ownership. In 1991 the company was acquired by Sennheiser, which eventually introduced a few changes to the U87Ai circuit, making the microphone even brighter and louder, which didn’t quite please everyone.

This particular U87A i Stereo set is in exceptional shape inside. Circuits and capsules are perfect. All original. All components are identical in both mics. The heads of both microphones are still sealed. The Neumann wax seal over the screws indicates that all components of the capsule assembly are still originally intact and were never opened. Everything works well and the microphones sound great and identical, making them well suitable for stereo recordings, like over heads, rooms, pianos etc. Of course, you will have two beautiful mics for many other mono applications. The bodies are in very good shape. No dents, just some mild oxidation and light scratches.

The set comes along with original Neumann EA 87 shock mounts, a waterproof case, and protective pouches.
