Few electric guitars are as deeply connected to jazz as the Gibson ES-175, and this Custom Shop reissue brings the beloved 1959 model back to life. With its natural finish, subtle VOS aging, and two humbuckers, this is a true jazzbox with character.
While many archtops feature a solid carved top, Gibson chose laminated maple for this model. Initially a cost-saving decision, it turned out to be a brilliant choice: the laminate is less prone to feedback and gives the guitar a tight, focused tone that translates exceptionally well when amplified.
From 1957 onward, the original pickups were replaced by humbuckers, and it is this late-’50s recipe that the Custom Shop has meticulously recreated here. Legends such as Joe Pass and Jim Hall demonstrated exactly what this model is capable of.
This 2014 Gibson has only seen minimal playwear. There are a few light, superficial dings and scratches visible on the body and neck, along with some minor marks on the pickguard. It presents very clean and remains in excellent condition. Supplied with a case and certificate of authenticity.
