Vintage Otto Link Super Tone Master "Early Babbitt" Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece - Size 8 (1970s, w/ Original "L" Ligature)*
Up for sale is a legendary vintage Otto Link Super Tone Master "Early Babbitt" Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece in a highly desirable factory original 8* facing. This is a true transitional piece from the mid-1970s, crafted using the original Florida blanks and molds, delivering that signature fat, dark, and powerful jazz core sound with incredible projection [claims].
Provenance & History:
This mouthpiece has incredible history. It was part of a pro-jazz setup, paired for decades with a legendary 1950 Conn 10M (Rolled Tone Holes). The previous owner was a dedicated gigging jazz musician who customized his gear for maximum performance.
Key Characteristics:
- Brand/Model: Otto Link Super Tone Master "Early Babbitt" (stamped "U.S.A" slightly off-center on the shank, with diagonal "Otto Link" on the spine)
- Size: Original factory stamped 8* (perfect for modern jazz/commercial playing)
- Ligature & Cap: Includes the highly valuable and original vintage Otto Link "L" ligature with the bottom screw [claims], and a functional vintage metal Yamaha cap for protection.
Condition Details (Honest Disclosure):
- Table & Rails: The table and side rails are clean and original. The very tip of the rail has micro-nicks/flea bites from normal use — it plays, but it is an ideal candidate for a minor tech touch-up or professional refacing to make it a perfect 10/10
- Bite Pad: Shows typical cosmetic teeth marks on the black beak inlay as expected from a well-loved vintage piece. Easily covered with a mouthpiece patch.
Selling AS-IS as a top-tier vintage collector's and player's gem. Open to reasonable offers close to the asking price. Ships safely and fast within the US!
