Hey there,

I'm selling my vintage 1970s AKG C452 E (with a CK1 capsule) that's in excellent condition for its age and has been well cared for. I'm consolidating my collection to help finance a larger studio project.

There's something special about this mic. It truly has a golden sound to it, clear and bright without being strident. It also has very good off-axis rejection and a close to neutral vintage coloration that works well especially in untreated rooms. It instantly imparts a printed or finished sound to any source, and it excels as an instrument microphone. A great vocal mic too!

When I was sourcing some of these vintage AKG's for a project, I tried a handful of C-452's a C-451 and a D-224 E, as well as a vintage Schoeps and a Peluso clone of the CMC's. This mic was the clear stand out, and had the most balanced and pleasing response across the spectrum. Perfect for project or pro studios and a fine example of an Austrian SDC. Definitely try it on drums and percussion! The last thing I recorded with this actually was a tabla performance and it sounded great! Also, would highly recommend it as an amplifier mic - this is where the high end really shines. With the right guitar tone and placement, you can really get this harmonic cascade effect to open up on a tube amp with drive and reverb. Pair it with something darker like a Coles and there's just another world in there.

The only flaw cosmetically is on the XLR connector ring at the base of the microphone - quite common with these. However, it doesn't effect the sound quality. the XLR connection has a snug, tight fit, with zero noise or connection issues. The mic has been cleaned and inspected - it's in great shape! I've priced this to sell below the current line of AKG 451's and other SDCs. The capsules alone usually go for $250 or more, and this example is in excellent condition without any issues with low end or aberrations. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Thanks for your interest!

All the best,

Robert
