Up for sale is a rare Fender Japan ST-CHAMP10, Crafted in Japan with an O serial number, from the late 1990s / 1997–1999 catalog era.
This is one of Fender Japan’s most unique compact Strat-style models, featuring a built-in speaker and amplifier powered by a 9V battery. It can be played on its own without an external amp, making it a very fun and practical guitar for home playing, travel, casual sessions, or simply as a collectible Fender Japan piece.
This particular example is finished in Lake Placid Blue / LPB, which is especially interesting because the standard catalog colors were mainly 3-Tone Sunburst and Black. LPB appears to be a non-catalog color for this model, making this example much more uncommon than the usual ST-CHAMP10 guitars seen on the market.
Although it has a compact body and built-in speaker, this is not just a toy or a children’s guitar. It has a solid Fender Japan feel, a comfortable short-scale neck, and a surprisingly good electric guitar sound. The built-in distortion mode is especially enjoyable — it gives the guitar a raw, fun rock character and makes it very satisfying to play even without an external amplifier.
The original Japanese catalog describes this model as having a “305 scale” neck, similar to a Mustang-style short scale. In practical terms, this corresponds to an approximately 610mm / 24-inch scale length, and this guitar measures about 61cm scale length. The shorter scale makes it comfortable and easy to play, while still feeling like a real guitar rather than a simple travel instrument.
This example has been inspected by us, and the body appears to be alder. The guitar also features a maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets, the original Fender Japan WHITE-CH humbucking pickup, built-in speaker system, and OFF / ON / DIST switching.
The built-in amp, speaker, distortion mode, pickup output, volume, tone, and switch have all been tested and are working properly.
A very nice point is that this guitar comes with many original accessories, including the dedicated Fender soft case, tremolo arm, owner’s manual, truss rod adjustment wrench, and saddle adjustment wrench.
This is a great opportunity to own a rare late-1990s Fender Japan ST-CHAMP10 in Lake Placid Blue, complete with many of its original accessories.
