Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome .

You are looking at a nice and rarer 1950's era RCA SK-45B model dynamic / pressure microphone based on the similar KN-1B dynamic / pressure microphone with the built in lower handle but this SK-45B was just the upper portion that could be screwed onto any desk or floor stand you have. The SK-45B is a high quality mic that would have been used for studio applications, paging or for public address. A great choice for broadcasting.

It comes with the original 30 foot foot cable shown as well as the metal case in which to store.

Pic # 2 & 3 shows you the basic characteristics of this microphone. I don't know how long RCA sold the SK-45B but it probably wasn't too many years. Possibly to 10 total? You just don't see to many of these around and this in a very nice example. Tested, cleaned and good to go with 100% strong output.

The SK-45B is also know as the RCA 12045B and it's a dual Z mic. I honestly don't know if the mic is currently High Z or Low Z but the tone is bright and very mid range. Even if it's Low Z do not expect a lot of bass from the mic like the modern Low mics.

I haven't had one of these models to offer in about 7 years now. The mic itself is dual Z.

The SK-45B is a beautiful design that was very modern and sleek for it's time looking like few others. It's an all metal construction and quite rugged. It has a swiveling head that tilts forward and backwards and there is adjustable tension that I had to fine tune as the head was quite loose but it's very firm now. This mic has the common RCA umber brown paint scheme along with the beautiful chrome front grill.

As you can see the mic itself is in very nice physical condition with typical lite scratches and scuff marks. There are no dents, corrosion or fractures on the mic. The front grill of the mic is clean and as nice as you could ask. Zero dents, odors or corrosion. Mic is 100% complete. I'd rate the true cosmetic condition an 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

The threading for the cable and mic stand are perfect. No issues. Again, the mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have. Total height of mic is appx is 5 inches X 1 3/4 inches wide X 2 inches deep. It's got a bit of weight to it as well.

The 30 foot cable appears to be original and it's in excellent condition. It has the vintage male XLR connector on the shorter portion of the cable and the longer portion attaches to that and has the male 1/4 inch end connector. I actually cut the cable and added the XLR connectors so while you may want to use that long cable I also understand that not everyone wants to use a 30 foot cable with a male 1/4 inch connector. The short 10 inch cable on the mic allows you to use any XLR cable as an extension which makes this mic that much more practical especially if you are sitting close to your HAM radio or other audio equipment. You probably don't want to deal with 30 feet of cable if that's the situation. Both cables are soft, pliable and work perfectly.

The mic also comes with the vintage metal case in which to store your items. The case has a practical carrying handle and locking mechanism. It has the original gold mustard color paint scheme. I added two new foam inner pads to keep the mic safe and snug. It's a very rugged design and compliments the mic nicely. Plenty of room inside for everything provided. The case shows very lite wear on the paint. It has zero dents or corrosion however and it's a great accessory to have to keep these items safe from damage.

If you demand an excellent working SK-45B to use frequently...this is your mic. This mic is absolutely going to rise in value over the years due to it's rarity, sound quality and physical condition. Hook this one up and you are ready for any live event.

MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
