Vintage 1960's Dukane 7A250 / Electro-Voice 676 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone Hi Z w cable 666 664A 664
Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at very rare variant of one of the most famous mics in American history. This very seldom seen Dukane 7A250 was based on the exact same platform as the Electro Voice 676 model dynamic cardioid microphone with the adjustable bass drop off lever, original mic clip & cable in which to operate. This example is a very good specimen overall despite the physical wear and in perfect working condition that will be outstanding for singing and broadcasting purposes as it was designed.
It should be noted that this mic was also originally sold as both Low Z & Hi Z model. This mic was factory set at Hi Z however and has more of a raw, brighter tone than your Low Z 676 though the bass drop off lever is adjustable so you have a wide range of tone to work with.
Electro Voice (Like Shure Brothers) sold many of their mics under contract to other audio electronic companies at the time and Dukane was one several who sold E.V mics with their name badge. Dukane sold the E.V 664, 636 and 623 models to name a few but I have only ever seen one other Dukane 7A250 before. Again, these are quite rare to come across.
Pic # 2 shows this very mic as well as several others in an old E.V catalog. This was an ideal mic for singing and broadcasting and gave the user extra length to work with once mounted.
This 676 was the same model mic that Jim Morrison from the Doors used frequently as seen in pic # 3. One of his favorite go to mics when performing live.
The 676 / 7A250 is a rugged all metal design with a polished chrome finish that isn't too heavy making it easy to hold for prolonged periods of time. It can also be placed in the clip provided if needed. It's appx 7 1/2 inches long X 1 1/4 inch wide.
The 676 was only sold for about 15 years before being discontinued but it's still one of the most desirable model mics from the 1960's and 70's. I'm not sure how many of these 7A250's were sold by Dukane. The number must have been very limited. Perhaps 1000 or less? Again, the tone is adjustable with the bass drop off lever built into the handle which works perfectly.
You'll get more of a "rockabilly" tone with the Hi Z 676 mics you come across. If that is the sound you're trying to replicate then this will be a very fun mic to work with.
This microphone came in both the polished chrome body as well as the painted body and as you can see in the pics provided that this chrome example has a bit cosmetic flaws on the finish. There are lite scratches here and there and an engraving at the very bottom of the handle. The mic is solid however and I'd rate it an easy 6 + on a scale of 1 - 10. The front screen has no deformation or odors but there is tarnish tarnish. I replaced inner pop filter which helps greatly with sound characteristics. The Dukane label looks very good overall with lite wear. This older mic takes a unique 4 pin screw on cable which is included.
The 7A250 comes with an original E.V model mic clip in which to grip the mic and it's in good physical shape with typical wear. It tilts accordingly and tension is adjustable via side screw. A great match and looks very good with the mic as well. The mic clip will screw onto any stand you have though the stand is included.
Again, the cable is provided. It's newer as I built it. It's in very nice physical and excellent operating condition with appx 28 feet of length to work with. Cable is balanced. The cable shows no exterior stains. It's soft, pliable and has the quality Switchcraft male XLR end connector for use with most audio equipment.
Again, not the prettiest example but it's currently the only 7A250 I have listed and won't get another of these in for many years to come if ever.
If you need something special to use for the daily...this will certainly do you justice.
