New for 2026! Heritage has updated all their Standard Series guitars to the new Series II. Still made in the original Gibson factory on 225 Parsons Street in Kalamazoo Michigan, the Heritage H-150 Series II features an updated headstock veneer, a mild weight relief to ensure gig-long comfort, and they have replaced the Seymour Duncan pickups with their own in-house Parsons Street Standard P90 pickups. Since Vista Music (formerly Bandlab) acquired Heritage several years ago, they have focused mainly on factory and quality improvements. The new Series II is the first significant update to the H-150 since they took over.
The most noticeable first impression is the weight of the guitar, which is about a pound less than the previous series. In the 8.4-8.6 pound range, it feels substantial but is more comfortable. The balance is good, and while taking mass out of the body will have some effect on tone, there is always the heaver-versus-light debate regarding which is better. But a 9.5 pound guitar can be a drag, literally. We appreciate the weight reduction, and let’s worry more about how it sounds as a total package.
As with all Heritage guitars that we've experienced, the H-150 hits a home run in terms of fit finish and setup. The attention to detail is excellent and the hardware and materials all exude quality. For the new Series II it comes equipped with their own Parsons Street Standard P90 pickups. Here is what Heritage has to say about them:
The new Heritage Custom Shop 225 Standard P90 pickups, wound in-house with 42 AWG poly wire and Alnico 5 magnets, capture the essence of this body design with punch, warmth, and clarity. Together, they deliver everything from shimmering cleans to biting overdrive tones, perfectly balanced across the frequency spectrum.
The neck pickup has a thick punchy midrange with very good definition and not a hint of muddiness. While it's a fat sounding pickup the bass response is not overly heavy, and it can be played with vigor without sounding boomy or bottom heavy. Like any good P90 it has firm pick attack, and even with overdrive it stays defined and is less creamy than some other P90's
Wound to roughly 10K, the bridge pickup sounds leaner than its resistance reading would imply. It's clean and clear with a linear response across the spectrum. That's just fine with us as we prefer a sparkly P90 over the nasal bark of an overwound pickup. It sounds awesome with overdrive and it's what we love about a good P90: Fatter and punchier than most single coils, and more articulate than a humbucker with plenty of harmonic content. While it won't appeal to metal fans, it's a killer setup for blues, classic rock and pop. And the individual volume and tone controls provide an array of blended tones. Hint: Some of the best P90 sounds are not full up, and we like the volume rolled off to around 7-8 when the pickups are by themselves, and maybe a little roll-off on the bridge tone control too.
We measured the 60’s C mahogany neck to be approx. .835 at the first fret tapering gently to .920" at the 12th. The nicely rounded C profile provides good palm support, and it feels pleasantly substantial without feeling bulky. The medium Plek'd frets are smoothly finished to a height of around .043", providing action that feels sleek and speedy.
The Heritage H-150 has always been an excellent example of the Classic single cut guitar. In our opinion the Series II contains thoughtful improvements that truly make the guitar better and more enjoyable to play. The lighter weight is welcome, and the new pickups really shine equally in both positions. If you’ve been thinking about an H-150 – or really any guitar of this ilk – the new Series II makes the decision that much easier.
