Crafted in Martin’s Custom Shop, the CS D-35 Italian Spruce / Cocobolo brings the iconic D-35 recipe into rare‑tonewood territory. A solid Italian spruce top meets solid cocobolo back and sides in the classic three‑piece D-35 layout, underpinned by Martin’s celebrated scalloped X-bracing heritage. The result is a dreadnought with formidable projection and headroom, yet a poised, musical balance that nods to the focus and articulation of Martin’s 000 lineage.

Italian spruce is prized for its quick response, wide dynamic range, and crystalline clarity with a refined hint of warmth. Cocobolo—dense, resonant, and visually striking—adds piano‑like lows, glassy highs, and rich overtones without smearing note definition. Together they yield a voice that stays composed when you dig in, offering strong midrange presence to cut through a mix, a taut, authoritative bass, and shimmering, airy treble that records beautifully.

Chords bloom with dimension; single notes pop with articulate separation. The long 25.4-inch scale enhances snap and sustain, while a sleek, hand‑carved neck with a modern, comfortable taper supports both agile fingerstyle and confident flatpicking. A moderate nut width provides room for intricate voicings without feeling wide on fast strums.

Ebony fingerboard and bridge transmit detail and sustain, and classic Style 35 appointments highlight the instrument’s Custom Shop refinement, all wrapped in a resonant, durable gloss finish. Whether you’re a dynamic strummer seeking thunderous yet controlled drive, a fingerstyle player chasing touch sensitivity and overtones, or a studio regular after mix‑ready clarity, this CS D-35 delivers the timeless dreadnought authority with a more present midrange and nuanced, 000-like balance. It’s an inspiring, professional tool on stage with a microphone and a lifelong companion in the writing room.

Every example is inspected and adjusted by Max Guitar luthiers for optimal playability and setup before it reaches your hands.
