PRS Silver Sky "Dead Spec" – Limited Edition John Mayer Signature

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of a pre-owned PRS Silver Sky, the iconic signature model designed through the powerhouse collaboration between PRS and John Mayer. This isn't just any Silver Sky—it is the legendary "Dead Spec" version, limited to only 1,000 pieces worldwide.

By blending PRS’s signature playability and balance with a distinct vintage feel, the Silver Sky has captivated the guitar world since its debut, earning high praise from fans and professional guitarists alike.

The Story Behind the "Dead Spec"

This specific model is the "Dead Spec" Silver Sky, a heavily modified version of the guitar Mayer used during the Dead & Company farewell tour. It was crafted as an homage to the "Alligator" guitar—the legendary instrument played by the late Jerry Garcia, the iconic lead guitarist and vocalist of The Grateful Dead.

Premium Specifications & Features

The "Dead Spec" introduces several significant departures from the standard model to achieve its unique tonal character:

• Body: Unlike the standard alder body, this model features lightweight Swamp Ash finished in a thin Moc Sand Satin lacquer, allowing the natural wood grain to show through.
• Hardware: The Gen III Tremolo unit features a brass tremolo block and is hard-tail bridged (direct-mounted to the body) for enhanced resonance.
• Nut & Retainer: Equipped with a brass nut and string retainer, producing a warmer, more musical sustain compared to the regular Silver Sky.
• Electronics (Alembic Blaster): One of the most notable upgrades is the custom brass jack plate housing an Alembic Blaster preamp. This allows for a volume boost adjustable from $3\text{dB}$ to $14\text{dB}$ via a trim pot. It delivers a punchy sound with excellent note separation while compensating for low-end loss over long cable runs. (Note: The preamp is bypassed when the switch is off.)

A Quote from John Mayer:

"After playing the Silver Sky designed for the 2023 Dead & Company Summer Tour, I immediately realized this guitar was special. I believe it’s a model that will excel in the hands of players across all genres, not just within Dead & Company. I’m looking forward to hearing the music that will be born from this guitar."
