YAMAHA DX7 II-D:

The legendary synthesizer that defined that "glassy" FM tone

Description

The YAMAHA DX7II-D is a digital FM synthesizer that appeared as an evolution of the original DX7, bringing new expressiveness and convenience to the music production scene at the time. While inheriting the original 6-operator FM sound source, the DX7II-D features greatly improved tone resolution, MIDI functionality, and operability. The most significant advances are the expanded number of tone memories (64 internal tones + 64 cartridge tones) and the improved visibility provided by the LCD display. In addition, the split/layering function, two stereo outputs, and an enhanced built-in performance mode provide greater flexibility for live and studio use. The sound source chip has also been redesigned to deliver a more refined sound. The sound trend is characterized by unique tones unique to FM sound sources, such as crystal-clear electric pianos, sparkling bell sounds, and dense and complex pad systems, which were used in many hit songs in the late 80s and early 90s and are still loved by many artists and producers today.
