I am offering a Fender Custom Shop '64 L-Series Telecaster Heavy Relic from 2014, a handmade at the Fender Custom Shop in Corona, California (USA), luxury reissue model based on a 1964 vintage Telecaster with a selected alder body (total weight 3.39kg), bolt-on quartersawn maple neck with sanded back and 60s style oval “C” neck profile, elegant rosewood fingerboard with 9.5" radius and 42mm bone nut, two Fender CS '63 Vintage Tele single-coil pickups handwound by pickup master builder Josefina Campos, classic 3-piece string-through-body vintage Tele bridge and high-quality Fender vintage-style tuners in an elaborately aged vintage white heavy relic nitro finish with mint green pickguard in mint condition, including black Fender CS deluxe hardshell case, all manufacturer's papers, and professional setup with 10-gauge Elixir strings.
This 2014 Fender Custom Shop '64 Telecaster Heavy Relic is consistently based on the historical specifications of a 1964 Telecaster. The early '60s era is considered one of the most sonically balanced phases of the pre-CBS Telecaster, during which greats such as George Harrison, Pete Townshend, and Andy Summers discovered their love for the Telecaster during the “British Invasion” and helped the model achieve worldwide fame. It is precisely this feeling that has been captured here with great attention to detail.
Accordingly, the guitar comes with a selected solid alder body, which provides the classic Telecaster tone foundation: dry, direct, and with a clear response. With a total weight of 3.39kg, the instrument is ideal for long sessions and offers excellent acoustic resonance. This is certainly also due to the elaborately implemented Vintage White Heavy Relic nitrocellulose finish – with realistic paint chips, numerous signs of wear and a natural-looking patina, just as you would expect from an intensively played original, the guitar not only presents a look to fall in love with, but also conveys an incredible vintage '60s vibe.
The bolt-on quartersawn maple neck with a medium-width '60s style oval C profile and factory-sanded back provides direct contact with the wood for a high-quality, silky-dry playing feel that immediately inspires confidence. In combination with the one-piece rosewood fingerboard, the 9.5" radius, and the 21 Sanko-6105 frets, the result is modern, precise playability without losing the authentic vintage character.
Sonically, this Telecaster impresses with two Fender CS '63 Vintage Tele singlecoils hand-wound by pickup master builder Josefina Campos, which perfectly reproduce the typical early '60s Tele sound: wiry, open highs, a hollow, woody midrange, and tight, defined bass. The bridge pickup delivers classic twang with excellent assertiveness, while the neck pickup remains warm, clear, and surprisingly round. The combination of both pickups produces the legendary bell-like Tele middle position signal, which is ideal for rhythm work and dynamic clean playing.
A sound sample of the model can be found above at the end of the photo gallery.
The classic 3-piece string-through-body '63 Vintage Tele bridge with notched saddles provides authentic attack, sustain, and tuning stability. This is complemented by Fender Vintage Style tuners, which fit perfectly with the overall historical concept, both visually and functionally. The aged chrome/nickel hardware and the three-ply mint green relic pickguard underline the harmonious pre-CBS look.
This '64 Telecaster Heavy Relic has the character of an uncompromising player's instrument with genuine vintage character. It is aimed at musicians who are looking for the feel of a Telecaster that has been played for decades, but don't want to compromise on reliability, tuning stability, and Custom Shop quality.
