Amek System 9098 Dual Mic Amp (Designed by Rupert Neve) - w/ Original Box and paperwork!
Dramatically downsizing to help fund farm operations. Listing more than 40 pieces in the coming days. Please check my other listings.
I have a deep personal history with this sound. I was fortunate enough to record on an actual Amek 9098 console at the legendary Studio D in Sausalito in the early 2000s. I know exactly what that desk sounds like, and I have always been enamored by the fact that Amek released this rack gear concurrently with the console. This isn't a "reissue" made 20 years later; this is the actual console hardware in a rack. It has the original box. And it has the original paperwork. Rupert's signature actually looks like his real signature even (although I am not sure if they did that on these or not).
Many engineers consider the Amek 9098 to be the "last great analog console" before the industry fully pivoted to digital. It wasn't about "vibey" distortion; it was about massive headroom, speed, and absolute perfection.
This particular unit is the Dual Microphone Amplifier. It captures that massive, high-bandwidth "sheen" that the 9098 desk was famous for.
- The M-S Matrix: The secret weapon on this unit is the built-in Mid-Side encoder/decoder with a dedicated "Width" control. This is incredibly rare on dual preamps and allows you to widen stereo images right at the source.
- Rupert Neve Design: As signed on the faceplate, this is a genuine Rupert Neve design, offering a cleaner, faster, and more "modern" alternative to the dark/heavy sound of a 1073. I actually think it's a fun novelty that many years later he started his own company literally named "Rupert Neve Designs". 🤓
Features:
- Designed by Rupert Neve (Signed Faceplate).
- Dual Channel Mic/Line/DI.
- Integrated Mid-Side (M-S) Decoding with Width Control.
- High-Pass Filters and Phase Reverse.
- Made in England.
I am listing this as "Very Good" purely out of caution due to its age. I purchased it directly from the original owner. It was obviously very well cared for, and includes the original factory packaging. You simply will not find another one from this era in this condition.
Let me know if you have any questions. As I mentioned above doing serious liquidation to help support the horse sanctuary so will be listing a lot in the upcoming days.
re: RETURNS
I have noticed in recent years here and on other sites there seems to be an increase of buyers that purchase an item, practically invent some sort of problem or issue, and then hold the seller's feedback ransom to get a few bucks back for free. That is why I am making it perfectly clear in my listings that I do not accept returns. Please ask all questions up front (additional condition details, request more pictures, etc.). However, if you check my feedback both here and on a popular auction site ( jmarsh45 ) you will see that I have a perfect 100% feedback rating of over 1,500 across both platforms over the past 25+ years (yes…since the late 1990s). I take my feedback and my gear very seriously even though I am a hobbyist. So please know that if there is a genuine problem, I am sure we can work something out. Just reach out before or after with any questions or issues.
