Built by Martin’s Custom Shop as a loving nod to the revered Style 18 lineage, this dreadnought blends old-world inspiration with modern Custom Shop precision. Style 18 instruments have long been prized for their direct, woody tone and musical honesty, forming the backbone of countless recordings across folk, country, bluegrass, and roots rock. This custom build stays true to that heritage while elevating it with premium materials and meticulous hand shaping, resulting in an instrument that feels broken-in and alive from the very first strum.

The pairing of mahogany back and sides with an Adirondack spruce top delivers a voice that is powerful yet articulate. Adirondack spruce, favored on many pre-war Martins, offers exceptional headroom and dynamic range, making this guitar ideal for players who dig in with a flatpick as well as those who favor nuanced fingerstyle. The scalloped, hand-shaped GE-style Adirondack bracing enhances responsiveness and projection, while preserving the dry, focused midrange that Style 18 dreadnoughts are famous for. Expect strong fundamental notes, crisp separation, and a warm, resonant low end that never gets muddy.

From a playability standpoint, the GE Modified Low Oval neck with a High Performance Taper strikes a perfect balance between vintage feel and modern comfort. The satin-finished neck encourages effortless movement, while the ebony fingerboard and classic Old Style 18 appointments reinforce the guitar’s timeless aesthetic. Whether you’re a traditionalist seeking authentic Martin tone, a songwriter looking for a dependable studio companion, or a performer needing a powerful acoustic voice that cuts through a mix, this Martin Custom Shop dreadnought delivers a deeply satisfying, heritage-rich playing experience. Available now at Haggerty’s Music, this guitar ships with a sturdy hardshell case.
