1978 Greco EG 500 B – Black Beauty Lawsuit Les Paul Standard - Killer Looks w Classic Sound!
This is the one you’ve been hunting for: a 1978 Greco EG-500B in drop-dead gorgeous Ebony Black, built at the absolute peak of the Fujigen factory’s golden era. This isn’t just another Japanese copy – this is the real-deal “lawsuit” Les Paul Standard that made Gibson sweat: open-book headstock, cream-bound body and neck, trapezoid inlays, and that perfect late-70s Greco craftsmanship that players swear beats most Norlin-era Gibsons hands-down.
Built like tanks with: multi-piece pancake mahogany body with a carved three-piece maple top, set three-piece maple neck with a medium tenon joint, bound rosewood board, and a lead friendly-fast neck profile that feels like it’s been your #1 for decades. Loaded with the original, ultra-desirable Maxon U-1000 humbuckers – hotter and clearer than PAFs, with that legendary midrange punch and harmonic bloom that defined the best 70s Japanese rock machines.
Tone: Absolutely nuclear. The U-1000s deliver thick, aggressive PAF-style roar with extra output and glassy top-end – think early Gary Moore, Paul Kossoff, or Ace Frehley cranked through a Marshall. The bridge pickup snarls and sings with endless sustain, the neck is fat, vocal, and dripping with bluesy warmth. Roll back the volume or tone and it cleans up beautifully. This thing does classic rock, hard rock, and blues like it was born for it.
Playability: Fresh professional setup – low, buzz-free action, perfectly dressed original frets with tons of life, spot-on intonation, slick neck feel. You’ll forget the gig is over.
**Condition:** Very good vintage player grade and 100% original. The front is prettyclean for 47 years old – deep glossy black with only faint swirling and a few sper small nicks/scratches. Back shows honest buckle rash, light scratches and a few small dings (pure rock ’n’ roll battle scars). No cracks, no breaks, no repairs. The hardware has stayed fresh and shiny, and looks killer.

About Greco:
The Greco brand of “replica” guitars was started by the Kanda Shokai Corporation in 1966, and is widely considered to be one of the best. Fueled by the popularity of bands like Led Zeppelin and other British invasion artists, the company was producing copies of Gibson’s Les Paul Standard by the early 1970s using scaled drawings derived from Gibson catalogs, and photos of musicians using real Gibson guitars. The company even enlisted the services of popular Japanese guitarist Shigeru Narumo to supervise its production of the Greco line, which gave a tremendous boost to its sale of Les Paul replicas.
By the mid-to-late 1970s, the company was making a Les Paul copy that rivaled the craftsmanship of its authentic U.S. counterpart—at prices far below those of the real McCoy. This 1978 Greco EG-700 is an exquisite example of those guitars. It features a beautiful black finish, set-neck construction with medium tenon joint. it’s a stunning example of Japanese six-string ingenuity and craftsmanship.

- You must notify us in writing within 3 days of delivery (per tracking) of your intent to return.
- Original shipping and return shipping costs are not refunded unless the guitar is damaged in transit or is significantly not as described.

We record demo videos of every guitar before shipping to document exact condition and performance. Additional photos, measurements, or in-hand descriptions are available upon request prior to purchase.
Minor adjustments and tweaks to a set up (for example to correct a slight buzz or truss-rod tweak) are normal after shipping due to carrier mishandling the package, climate & atmospheric changes, especially when moving from South Florida to colder or less humid environments. These slight issues do not constitute “significantly not as described.” Guitars must be returned in the exact same condition as received/advertised or additional repair/restocking fees will apply.
We are a small business, not a big-chain retailer. We invest significant time and effort into every guitar. This is a NO TIRE-KICKING shop. There is no post purchase haggling or partial refunds. If minor cosmetic marks, tiny imperfections, or the possibility of a post-shipping setup tweak makes you uncomfortable, please do not buy. Plenty of large retailers offer free trials and can absorb shipping costs—we do not.
