Collings guitars are one of the most highly acclaimed brands in the world. Their consistently high level of perfection captivates players with a beauty that captivates them just by holding one, and the sound they produce is truly captivating. With the passing of charismatic Bill Collings in 2017 and the retirement of early master builder Bruce VanWart, Collings has steadily passed on to the younger generation, continuing to shine with even greater passion and refinement. This instrument, the "D2AHC," is part of Collings' new acoustic series, "Hill Country," which represents the pinnacle of Collings' craftsmanship. All models in the "Hill Country" series feature Adirondack spruce tops, handmade pickguards, wedges, and neck heel caps, and brand engraving on the back of the headstock. While faithfully inheriting the qualities of Collings, this new series evolves to be more acoustic and dynamic. This is a 2Style Indian RW Dreadnought model. It features soft, deep-grained Adirondack spruce, exquisite East Indian rosewood back and sides with beautiful grain, a Honduran mahogany neck, an ebony fingerboard and bridge, long saddles, gold MOP slotted diamond and square fingerboard inlays, relic Waverly open-back tuning machines, a handmade tortoiseshell pickguard, ivoroid binding, a zigzag back strip, and Hill Country scalloped X bracing with a short tang brace. Packed with a variety of new features, the "Hill Country" is a masterpiece developed largely by current acoustic master builder Steve Nall. The first thing that strikes you about the finished product is the sound. It's surprisingly full, harmonically rich, and resonant, with a refined quality that truly evokes the scalloped sound of the pre-war era. This model also features the signature Collings sound, with its thick core, attack, and clear, wide range. It's a truly accomplished model that embodies many of the elements required of a flat-top acoustic guitar at a very high level. Its depth and breadth in strokes, reverberation and persistence in single notes, a dynamic range with a solid and powerful response, excellent tone balance and pitch—the list goes on and on. It's the ultimate in traditional gear, boasting an unparalleled level of perfection. Over the past few years, Collings' Standard Series has been so refined that I had imagined it had reached a certain level of perfection, but I was easily surprised. Its charm is truly beyond words. This is a masterpiece created by the unwavering, high-spirited Collings generation. Experience it for yourself.
