Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic mid 1970's / early 1980's Shure Brothers 55SH dynamic cardioid microphone made in the USA and set at low impedance with a smooth warm tone making this one of the best dynamic cardioid mics of it's time and it still sounds incredible even today. The mic comes with the attractive period mic case in which to store.

Pic # 2 shows this very model as well as the Shure 330 from that era and it's basic characteristics.

This particular model was the last of the 55S series before being discontinued and came with the black foam screens, rectangular silver Shure badge, practical on / off switch and the modern XLR cable input. Shure Brothers eventually discontinued this 55SH in the late 1980's I believe and was not reintroduced for several years. When Shure finally started selling the "Super 55" again in the early 2000's it had a completely different element with slightly stronger output but the overall design was the same as the 55SH.

When Shure Brothers sold the 55SH it still utilized the exact same dynamic cardioid element as when it sold the 55S back in 1951. Hard to believe that an element designed in the early 1950's was still studio quality in the 1980's but that's how amazing the mic was all those years it was sold. The 55SH did away with the impedance switch as well as it was really not needed at that point in time due to the improvement of most audio equipment.

This legendary 55 series microphone was used by many famous artists and politicians over the years including Elvis Presley and even the young revolutionary Fidel Castro. Those clean lines and deco styling make this mic stand out from all the others produced over the last century. Again, this is the newer version of that early design.

It should be noted that this mic has an excellent nice working dynamic cardioid element with strong output. This one was very well taken care of over the decades despite the lite cosmetic wear. Perfect for singing and broadcasting as it was intended. The uni-directional characteristics on these mics are outstanding drowning out most unwanted background noise.

As seen in the pictures provided the the satin chrome shows typical lite cosmetic wear. The finish has a very nice luster with just scuff marks here and there. No deep scratches. There are zero bent or fractured ribs on this mic. The Shure label looks very nice as well. Overall this mic is a very conservative 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10. This mic is solid...no loose parts inside or out.

I take the time to secure the inner element as it's held in place with 3 shock mounts that wear out with age. Once the element becomes loose it's almost impossible to use these live as they create too much unwanted feedback from banging around. This one is good to go. Nice and snug...no worries for decades to come.

I also professionally replaced the inner foam as it was falling apart from old age. The new foam looks great and is very important for sound characteristics as it acts as a pop filter. It will be good for another 50 years.

The threads for the stand are excellent and the joint mechanism holds strong. This 55SH will screw onto any desk or floor stand you wish to use.

The mic takes a standard XLR cable though none is provided. The XLR pins on this mic were cleaned however ensuring a perfect signal once a cable is attached.

The Vintage case is also part of this package deal. A durable aluminum case with an attractive faux leather exterior and stitching. This case shows extremely lite wear and has a practical handle for carrying it around as well as a locking mechanism and original keys. I also installed new inner foam. A Great place to keep the mic while not in actual mic as it keeps dust, dirt and scratches away. The case is appx 10 inches across X 7 inches deep X 3 inches tall. Case is an easy 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

This mic is ready to go for any situation and will make a very nice gift for yourself or anybody you know.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

As with all my vintage microphones...
