The Demiourgos Fuzz is a classic MK2-bender-style 3-transistor fuzz circuit with a bass cut control after the first gain stage. This batch of the Demiourgos Fuzz features:
- Philips OC71 and 2N280 germanium transistors
- Allen Bradley S-level carbon composition resistors
- Philips and Sprague capacitors
- Alpha, Switchcraft, and CIC hardware
- Powder-coated and UV printed enclosure
Each pedal is hand-crafted in Portland, OR in small batches and will vary slightly in appearance. I make sure all pedals from the same batch sound and perform as close to each other as possible.
This batch uses my "R.01" recipe, powered by trio of new old stock Philips black glass OC71 and 2N280 germanium transistors, resembling the transistor setup of the original units. It's my take on the classic MK2 sound in my head, massive, aggressive, saturated, and fairly loose. The tone control cuts the low end without altering the core sound, which can be useful for tightening up the fuzz.
Power Source
Use 9V battery or isolated 9V DC power supply with negative center (standard polarity).
Do not daisy-chain with other effects. Doing so may damage the power supply and/or the pedal. Keep the input jack unplugged when connecting or disconnecting the power source.
Controls
Fuzz: Adjusts the amount of fuzz.
Vol: Sets the output volume.
Tone: Cuts the low frequency when rolled down. Stock MK2 setting is fully clockwise (no bass cut).
If possible, keep the Demiourgos Fuzz first in the signal chain directly connected to the guitar. Placing it after a buffer or other effects, even when turned off, may introduce noise or negatively impact the sound. The Demiourgos Fuzz is biased and tuned to accentuate the aggressiveness and may not fully clean up when the guitar’s volume knob is turned down. It has a massive bass with the tone control full up (stock MK2), which may sound bloated. Dialing down the tone control helps tighten up the low end.
The Demiourgos Fuzz is powered by three germanium transistors, which are notoriously temperature-sensitive. Use the pedal at room temperature for optimal performance. The sound and texture may vary depending on the temperature as the transistor bias voltages will change. The pedal will still be fully functional with moderate temperature swings, however it may not sound good at extreme temperatures.
