Zemaitis was crafted by Tony Zemaitis, a London-born artisan.

He originally began his career as a furniture maker, and the skills he acquired there are fully utilized in his guitar-making.

He began guitar making in earnest around 1965, introducing the iconic metal-front design—a style so distinctive it has become synonymous with the brand.

Even those unfamiliar with guitars are likely to recognize traditional-style guitars as iconic instruments, and it’s not uncommon to hear that, for such people, Zemaitis was the very symbol of a “high-end guitar.”

With its one-of-a-kind, unique appearance, the brand has long been embraced and loved not only by various artists but also by audiences.

The model we’ve just received features a mother-of-pearl inlay front.

While the Metal Front remains the strongest image associated with Zemaitis, its striking appearance has actually caused some people to shy away from it.

The inlay-front model doesn’t have quite as striking a look as the metal-front version, giving it a universal appeal that makes it more accessible to a wider audience.

That said, the meticulously crafted inlay is incredibly cool and exudes a genuine sense of luxury. The high-end appeal of the Zemaitis brand is very much alive and well.

At the same time, it’s surprising that the price has been kept so low, considering it features a very costly set-neck joint, is made in Japan, and has unique specifications that can’t be found on other models.

In terms of wood specifications, it features a mahogany body and neck, along with an ebony fingerboard without binding. The finish is black lacquer.

It delivers ample mid-to-low frequencies combined with the high-end clarity and responsiveness unique to ebony, producing a well-balanced yet compelling and powerful tone.

Unlike typical single-cutaway models, it lacks a thick top and features a body shape with a pronounced waist and slightly smaller dimensions, making it exceptionally easy to handle.

Although it’s lightweight due to the absence of a duralumin pickguard, it still delivers tight lows and a sound with real presence.

It’s equipped with two Dragon Burst pickups, a staple of the Zemaitis lineup.

There’s also a covered version called the Classic, which was originally designed to achieve a vintage humbucker sound; however, there’s an anecdote that when it was actually completed and played, it produced a surprisingly powerful tone.

This sound remains deeply beloved in the rock scene today, and the guitar is undoubtedly appreciated not only for its striking appearance but also for its sound.

The Burst model, combined with its open design, is slightly hotter, delivering a sound that’s even better suited for the rock scene.

Attention to detail is evident throughout, from the original aluminum alloy bridge and tailpiece to the escutcheon, jack plate, truss rod cover, and back panel—all of which feature decorative accents.
