1998 Gibson Les Paul R8 / 1958 Reissue “Yamono Top”
1998 Gibson Les Paul R8 Historic 1958 Reissue “Yamono Top”
Here is a rare and gorgeous 1998 Gibson Les Paul R8 Historic 1958 Reissue. This guitar was marketed as a “Yamono Top” though the vendor didn’t provide any documentation to support this. If true, then this guitar was hand-picked for Gibsons Japanese distributor, Yamano Music. Gibson hand-picked the finest tops to be sent over to Japan during this period. Either way, this top is pretty unbelievable and stunning. The vendor I purchased this from referred to this top as a “Sunburst”, but to me this burst color is very unique and exceeds the various modern burst descriptions.
Its in excellent condition as it shows only very minimal wear. The neck is straight as an arrow and the frets are in near mint condition. There are no chips or dings on the top or back. The electronics work as they should without any issues. This guitar plays great! The action is perfect and there are no dead spots anywhere on the neck. This is by far one the the best Les Pauls I've played and seen! The brown reissue Gibson case is included as well, though I don’t know if this is the original case. This guitar has been with me for about a decade and I really have no desire to sell this, but times are tough and I already have a second R8, so one of them has to go. I truly hope that someone really falls in love with this instrument and ends up playing it all the time!
Though I’ve been a purchaser on Reverb for many, many years, this will be among my first sales (I’m putting 2 or 3 other guitars up in addition to this), so please reach out if you have any questions, as I’d be happy to discuss this instrument.
