If you are looking at this ad, you most likely have an understanding of the history of these guitars. This is number 40 (see shots of rear of headstock) of 77 that were made in the late 70's. This one came out of the factory in December of 1977 (also shown on the small plaque on the back of the headstock). These were certainly the most expensive Les Pauls to come out of the factory at that time. You can see how most of what is normally plastic on most LP's is of carved rosewood on this model: pickguard, knobs, etc.
This guitar is in excellent condition with only minor surface scratches and checking. Obviously, it has received very little playing time. I must note that the switch-tip, although of wood and similar to the original, is a replacement, as the wood split on the original. A previous owner had a near-perfect duplicate made.
My digital scale shows this to weigh 9 pounds 13 ounces.
While many of these guitars came from the factory in a special case, this one came with just a plain black Gibson 70's case. I have chosen to house it in one of Gibson's "chainsaw" cases, as they are extremely safe and perfect for housing a guitar like this one.
I have linked a video to a YouTube demonstration of this exact guitar by the previous owner. I think it's very helpful in evaluating the guitar.
Because of the relative rarity, they don't just show up for sale every day. So if you are wanting to complete a collection of 70's LP's or collect rare LP's or just want a good investment, this would be a wonderful addition to your guitar collection.
I will ship it at my own expense...most likely FedEx or UPS 2nd Day Air. If it makes any difference, this comes from a smoke-free home.
