Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

If you are a big fan of the Electro Voice 664 and you are looking for something with the same overall look in which to display in your vintage mic collection or just about anywhere in the house, studio or office then you might want to give this Knight 4550 mic with stand a consideration.

This microphone was manufactured in Chicago, Ill by Allied Radio Corp. I'm not sure what ever happened to this company but this 4550 was their shining star and this 4550 has a great uni-directional pattern cancelling out most noise from the side and rear. It should be noted however that the mic was tested and in non-working condition due to a bad element.

Pic # 2 is the only advertisement I have ever found on this Knight 4550 which is pretty non-detailed but still an interesting definition of the 4550 model.

I actually thought many years ago that the Knight 4550 and Electro Voice 664 utilized the same inner workings due to the fact that both mics are virtually identical in size and were sold during the same time but after opening one of these 4550 model mics up I discovered that the designs are completely different. The E.V 664 had the superior design it seems as an E.V 664 is usually still working after all these decades as where the odds of a 4550 still operating is around 30 to 40% odds. I have heard working examples of these 4550 model mics however and they sound incredible. They were dual Z mics as well allowing for both Hi Z and Low Z depending on how the mics were wired.

This mic would have been ideal for both singing and broadcasting.

The Knight 4550 Cardioid Dynamic microphone came with a quality polished chrome body.   This microphone is just slightly bigger than your classic Electro Voice 664 mic and is a bit more elegant in nature with smoother lines as where the 664 is a bit more aggressive.

As you can see in the pictures provided the body on this mic is quite beautiful with just a minimum of cosmetic wear in the form of lite scratches and tiny pitting. The chrome is highly polished and absolutely glows as does the metal mesh screen. The ON / OFF switch slides smooth as it should. No issues. This mic is real tight...nothing loose. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. The threads for the stand and cable are perfect with no wear or cracks.

This mic would be ideal for the collector of vintage microphones due to it's rarity and nice overall physical condition. This would make a good prop piece as well for any movie or t.v series as well. Being sold cheap due to non-working status.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a newer Chinese cast iron piece based on the same model as the Atlas DS-5. It has a wide heavy base being ideal for these larger, heavier stands of that time period. The base has the original paint and it's in very nice shape. There is no corrosion on this piece and still has the original 3 rubber pads. The 4 inch chrome riser looks fantastic as well. This will keep your mic from tipping over and compliments it nicely.

Total height with mic on stand raised fully upright is appx 14 1/2 inches X 6 inches tall. Combined weight is roughly 4 pounds.
