I’m selling two Tascam PortaOne Analog Cassette 4-Track machines. I’ve tested everything I could test and I’ll list what issues I’ve found.
Unit 390309:
Includes 4-track, power cable, soft case, full instructions booklet.
The foam in the case is deteriorating due to age. I’ve cleaned any pots that were crackling so none are now. Cue 3 does not work. The cassette door doesn’t stay open. The jack for the power adapter either needs resoldered or replaced. If you plug in the power cable and tape it where it’s pressed down, the unit has power. I’ve not tested the batteries. There’s no corrosion on the battery terminals. I thought this unit was playing in a way where the music sounded out of phase. Almost like it was underwater or had a little DNR. I tried to have it fixed and the tech couldn’t find parts. I think It was something about the way the tape head engaged the tape. I remember it had to do with a spring. I then bought the second unit, 390136 to digitize my old cassettes. When I’ve tested this unit, 390309, it now sounds like it’s playing correctly. I’m not sure why. I used this unit to rewind my tapes and unit 390136 to play them for digitizing. There are specs of something on the front of the manual. I can remove some with my thumbnail.
Unit 390136:
Includes 4-track, power cable, hard case, a portion of instructions.
The foam in the case is deteriorating due to age. Almost no crackling when moving knobs, faders, etc. Only two very small crackles. A cleaning will take care of that. Rewind and Fast Forward don’t work. They did when I first bought the machine. The “Push on Light” button doesn’t seem to do anything (the lights are already on in the meter). Maybe it’s only for battery power? I didn’t test the unit with batteries. There’s no corrosion on the battery terminals.Twisting the power cable in its jack can make the power flicker but it stays on. The cassette door doesn’t lay flat when closed and doesn’t stay up with opened. The transformer in the power cable rattles when shaken.
Punch Pedal:
It works. It has scuffing from use.
All items were kept in non-smoking homes.
