1965 Supro 1605R vintage w/ reverb, serviced, Valco Chicago 35, Mike Ness, Social Distortion

for sale extremely rare 1960's Supro 1605R Reverb from the collection of mike ness

serial number G38092

this holy grail supro amp was part of mike ness' collection and purchased directly from him. sale will include a signed certificate of authenticity, indicating the serial number of this amp. last year mike sold a large collection of rare combos while making room for some incoming tweeds. these amps are used for writing and recording in the incredible decked-out giant art deco socal d studio. 

in 2022 amp received a full service. currently has vintage tubes installed, it was not necessary to retube pre or power amp tubes. the reverb knob was a bit scratchy, amp performance was a little intermittent. so we did a full service. 

amp is now sounding incredible and it's really amazing. a truly legendary amp tone. cabinet sounds incredible.  

fully cleaned, inspected and most importantly bench safety tested by a veteran industry electrical engineer (cecil electronics). heavy duty long 3 prong cord installed. one obscure old cap was found to be bad (dented) and was replaced. after 9 months of searching, it was impossible to find a NOS replacement. it was a very obscure capacitor. so modern replacement was used. also new reverb tube installed. total bill was $270. this reverb is unique to supro and sounds nothing like a fender reverb, which is pretty cool. amp itself does not sound like a vintage fender, which is what makes is so awesome. in the studio jimmy page could've used used vintage tweeds all day long, but he used supro. inside of amp is otherwise all original, and extremely clean, aside from a single capacitor. there's talk that this amp shares the same circuit with a gretsch amp, but the tech thinks there's reason to believe they're not 100% identical. regardless, this is a very rare amp. 

original speaker, not re-coned, original transformer. amp has not been messed with or modded in any way. the insides look brand new. 

my tech was able to track down a hand drawn reverse engineered schematic, which is not 100% correct, but extremely close.  included in sale is disc with many high resolution photos of the internals, a schematic, original power cord, old reverb tube, a $270 receipt for service performed and a certificate signed from mike ness. 

since around 1992 mike has exhibited one of the greatest live guitar tones in history, and is a true historian and expert on finding powerful, life changing, soul stirring guitar tones both live in the studio. tones which have changed people's lives and influenced droves. and still evolving. mike will go down in history as one of the all time greats, he's in a league of his own. if you never witnessed the sound of mike's high output p90s through his hot rodded bassman in a small venue, it was truly one of the greatest, most identifiable live guitar tones of all time. 

i have shipped high end gear internationally for over 25 years. this amp will be extra padded and shipped in a large box. the tubes will be removed and labeled.
