1977 IBANEZ
PROFESSIONAL 2681 Bob Weir Artist model original
Natural finish with the TREE OF LIFE inlay. RARE - code VA46
First year of production and designed by Bob Weir.
This model was the distinctive model of the Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir.
There were two versions, which differed from the Griffbrette deposits. The 2680s
had "normal" points, the rare 2681 elaborate "Tree of life" inlays as this with
full blown abalone and MOP inlay job with tree of life and the fancy headstock.
The configurations changed a bit during the period and this one has Super 80
Flying Fingers pickups – Harmonica bridge – Suregrip Knobs – Separate Cloud
plate all as it came out of the factor. It is a massive construction of an ash
body with a glued maple neck and an ebony fretboard. The
2681 was only made for two years.
The
attractive grain body is equipped with a so-called "German notch" (milled edge)
and a multiple binding with mother-of-pearl. The pickups are the legendary
"Flying Fingers" pickups with the corresponding symbol above incisoi. The
circuit corresponds to that of a Les Paul. The hardware is gold plated. The
sound is clearly designed in the "Les Paul" set-up. Based on the old PAFs, the
PUs are more vintage-oriented, making the guitar more suited to blues rock and
jazz. The neck is strong and allows with the wide spacing and low action to make
a pleasant game at the highest levels. The keys show little wear. For an
instrument of almost 40 years, the Ibanez is in excellent condition.
