Up for sale today is an impossibly rare 1902 Martin 00-42S Special, also known to be a 00-45 Prototype. The 00-45's didn't become a model until 1904, and these 00-42S's were a way for Martin to tinker with the features before releasing it as a model. This guitar features pearl binding on the top and sound hole only, not on the back or sides. It also has a pearl inlayed pick guard below the sound hole similar to Martin's Mandolins of that era. The guitar has a vine inlayed fretboard as well as the headstock. This piece of history will come in a non-original hard shell case.
