1980 Kramer 650b US made aluminum neck Artist bass guitar.
All original, in excellent shape, with the original case.
These aluminum neck basses are simply amazing, and this is the top of the line model featuring a Walnut/Birdseye Maple body with the german routed edge, and the fancy "crown" inlays instead of dots. The custom Kramer pickups sound huge, and the sustain from the aluminum neck is legendary. If you have played one of these, you know what I'm talking about. Nothing out there sounds better in my opinion, and as a repair tech, I've been lucky enough to play many, many highly sought after basses.
I personally own 2 of these 650b's and this is the one that's in better condition. It had one owner prior to me, and I never played it while I owned it. It stayed in it's case. I'm rough on my instruments, so I've always used the one thats more beat up. I would love to keep it, but right now, unfortunately, I need the money more than I need a bass that sits in a closet.
Everything on it is in absolutely great shape. Action is awesome and it was just setup with new Daddario 50-100's prior to listing it. Neck and frets are in perfect condition. Electronics/wiring is all original and untouched. Finish is perfect except the tiniest amount of buckle rash on the back belly cut area. Which is about the size of a quarter, on the rim of the belly cut, and does not go through the finish. Standard 34" standard long scale.
Check out that flame in the Walnut! Most of these aren't that well matched and flamed.
The only repair this has was the wooden pickup ring for the bridge pickup. It broke near the screw holes which is VERY common on these. Ive had about 10 of these exact basses come through my hands over the years, and every single one of them was either missing the rings entirely or had at least one of the pickup rings re-glued at some point. It really does happen to nearly all of them. My advice to people who own these is DON'T ever take the rings off. Just leave them be. They are super brittle, so your better off just leaving them on, even when deep cleaning, polishing, or whatever. They were handmade out of walnut, so they just are not durable like plastic or metal pickup rings.
Anyway, the bridge pickup ring on this has been glued back together and looks great/ is barely noticeable it was repaired, unless you are examining it very closely.
Overall I would give this a 9.5 in condition. The only reason it isn't a 10 is the pickup ring repair and the tiny bit of rash on the back. For being 35 years old, it really looks practically new.
The owner prior to me had this appraised at a local guitar shop in 2011 for $3,000. That appraisal will stay in the case with it.
If you would like ANY further pictures or have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask. I am a repair tech certified by most of the major guitar manufacturers out there, so I should be able to answer any questions, or specifics you would like to know. I am new to reverb, but have a long history of selling quality gear on eBay. My name on eBay is thoughtcrimesubversion if you would like to check my feedback.
