Ibanez Rare 2388 Lawsuit Fretless Electric Bass Guitar 1976 Natural

Before Ibanez was known and loved for their own designs, they were well known for their copies of other manufacturers guitars. In fact a good number of these copies were and are considered better than the originals. This lead to many cease & desist and well as copywright lawsuits. The 2388 angered the original company to the extent that many people still won't show the full body in pics when one of these rarities comes up for sale. A very cool addition to any Ibanez collection.
The body here is ash, which, combined with the larger body size, creates impressive resonance as well as midrange push.
Dual retro style single coil pickups provide a palette of tones- including a pretty good representation of the original Rick pickups. Each pickup has its own volume and tone controls. From jangly bridge position to warm neck tones, it's all in here. This is a monster tone machine.
Ibanez has always been known for their comfortable necks and this one is a perfect example. The maple neck here is .88" deep at the 5th fret with a C profile. Super comfortable while the body design provides access to the entire fretboard.
The look here is beautiful- natural finish showing off the grains, bound body with herringbone visuals, bound fingerboard, and black triangle fretboard inlays.
This Ibanez 2388B is in good overall condition for its age- many marks as you'd expect and the frets were pulled and filled aftermarket. Nothing that affects the performance whatsoever.
