Up for sale is an original Ensoniq EPS ("Classic") 13-bit sampler keyboard. This unit has been meticulously cleaned inside and out and heavily serviced. It is almost fully functional but experiences a couple of intermittent system errors under specific conditions, making it an ideal, easy-win project for a collector or technician to finalize. When the unit doesn't experience errors, everything functions and sounds beautifully (including sampling, sample playback on all keys, sequencing, disk operations, wheels, polyphonic after-touch, etc.), but please continue reading for additional information!
🟢 Serviced & Functional Highlights
- Flawless Booting: Unlike many project units, this EPS boots up perfectly fine every single time without fail when given an OS disk.
- Cleaned & Serviced Keybed: The entire polyphonic after-touch keybed has been thoroughly cleaned, physically serviced, and behaves exactly as it should.
- Rebuilt Control Panel: Every single tactile switch on the front control panel was audited. Any switches showing signs of failure or out-of-spec resistance were replaced with brand-new components. The remaining factory switches were thoroughly cleaned and conditioned with genuine DeoxIT.
- Power Supply Checked: Power supply rail voltages have been fully bench-verified to ensure they are stable and performing within original factory specifications.
- Hardware Completeness: The physical chassis is completely intact with zero missing parts (screws, slider caps, and jack nuts are all present).
🔴 Known Issues & Diagnostic Notes (Read Thoroughly!)
- Intermittent Stability Errors: While it boots up great, the unit will occasionally throw an intermittent System Error 129 or System Error 131 after it has been powered on and running for a while. These errors also sometimes trigger specifically when pressing the physical "Up" or "Command" buttons, pointing toward a thermal expansion/warm-up issue or a minor logic/trace fault on the panel line.
- Data Slider Behavior: I replaced the slider potentiometers entirely, but the data slider still bottoms out digitally at a value of "4" instead of dropping all the way to "0" (likely a calibration resistor or trace issue on the panel board). Fortunately, it is incredibly easy to work around: you simply press the hardware "Down" arrow button directly to the left of the slider 4 times to manually drop the value to 0.
- Items Not Included: A standard IEC power cord and an OS boot floppy disk are not included. You will need an EPS OS disk to boot past the initial prompt screen.
