Martin 1997 000-42 CTM - top-tier Style 42 tone and looks in a practical 000 body, matured over nearly 30 years.
The 000 shape's string separation and fast attack combine with the shimmering overtones of Style 42's top-grade woods and fine abalone inlay - the glossy, bluesy, transparent tone Eric Clapton showed the world on Unplugged. As a custom model built to special specifications by Martin's craftsmen beyond the regular 000-42, it carries selected wood combinations and an extra level of potential, translating subtle fingertip nuance into a golden tone. Nearly 30 years of aging have removed the stiffness of a new high-end guitar, giving rich, mature sustain from a light touch.
The 000-42 was originally made in smaller numbers than high-end dreadnoughts and rarely appears on the used market - a good 90s custom example is a rare find.
