Yamaha SA2000 Natural (1977–1979)
The Yamaha SA2000 is one of Yamaha’s most respected vintage semi-hollow electric guitars. Introduced in the late 1970s, it was designed as a high-end alternative to the Gibson ES-335, with exceptional Japanese craftsmanship, premium woods, and versatile electronics.
The Natural finish (blonde) is especially attractive because it showcases the figured maple grain and craftsmanship.

What makes the 1977–1979 models special?
- Japanese craftsmanship: Yamaha’s flagship semi-hollow model, featuring detailed binding, pearl inlays and three-point adjustable pickup mounting.
- Original humbuckers: Warm, articulate and especially well suited to jazz, blues and classic rock.
- Natural finish rarity: Natural appeared in the 1978 Japanese and export catalogs and the 1979 Japanese catalog, but disappeared from later catalogs.
- Distinctive construction: Period documentation identifies laminated beech/birch body construction with a maple/spruce center block, rather than the conventional all-maple construction often attributed to the model.
