ReVox B77 4-Track 3¾/7½ IPS Open Reel Stereo Tape Recorder, Extensively Serviced

ReVox B77 Four-Track Stereo Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder

Extensively serviced and refurbished ReVox B77, manufactured in West Germany, featuring newly manufactured Nagravox VU meters, recapped audio boards, upgraded roller-bearing tape guides, and extensive mechanical maintenance.

This is the four-track stereo version, operating at 3¾ and 7½ IPS, housed in its original portable enclosure with integrated carrying handle. It has undergone substantial electronic and mechanical refurbishment by an experienced technician, including the following work:

Service and Refurbishment

• All audio boards recapped.
• All trimmer potentiometers on the audio boards replaced.
• Both original VU meters replaced with a matched pair of newly manufactured Nagravox meters, featuring LED illumination and overload indicators.
• Original fixed tape guides upgraded to roller-bearing guides.
• Tape counter belts replaced.
• Take-up reel brake band and associated hardware replaced.
• Supply reel brake cleaned and associated hardware replaced.
• Small crack in the motherboard repaired.
• Internal foam circuit-board retaining strip replaced.
• Mechanical components lubricated where appropriate.
• Tape path and heads demagnetized.
• Machine aligned.
• Exterior enclosure extensively cleaned and refurbished.

New Nagravox VU Meters

A particularly noteworthy upgrade is the installation of two newly manufactured Nagravox VU meters, replacing the aging original assemblies.

Original ReVox B77 meters are susceptible to sticking needles, deterioration of internal adhesives, and loss of accuracy as they age. These new-production replacements address those concerns while retaining the classic ReVox appearance.

The replacement meters incorporate modern LED illumination and overload indicators, eliminating the original incandescent lamp holders and their troublesome connections.

Configuration and Features

• Four-track, two-channel stereo recording and playback
• Tape speeds: 3¾ and 7½ IPS
• Three-head design with separate erase, record, and playback heads
• Three-motor, direct-drive transport
• Electronic tape counter
• Independent left and right recording level controls
• Input and tape monitoring
• Selectable AC line voltage for international operation
• Original portable enclosure with carrying handle

Cosmetic Condition

The machine presents very well overall, with a particularly clean front panel and an attractive original enclosure.

There are two minor cosmetic imperfections: a tiny, old cigarette burn adjacent to one of the upper ventilation grilles and a minute crack in the carrying handle. Both are inconspicuous and have no effect on the machine's operation or functionality.

The enclosure has been extensively cleaned, and the machine retains its original appearance.

Final Notes

The ReVox B77 is among the most respected domestic reel-to-reel tape recorders of its era, combining Swiss engineering with a straightforward, serviceable design and excellent recording capabilities.

This example benefits from extensive attention to its electronic circuitry, transport mechanism, braking system, tape guides, and metering. The new-production Nagravox meters are an especially valuable improvement over the aging original components.

The machine will be carefully packed for shipment and shipped fully insured. Local pickup is also welcome.
