For sale is what I believe to be a 1955 Gibson Les Paul Junior (serial number 55546). I purchased this guitar from the original owner.

I refretted the guitar with .080"x.039" wire (period correct) and the guitar is playing great.

It appears the neck had been reset at some point previously (as evidenced by some finish chipping around the neck joint - see pictures).

Please note that I also repaired some wood that had crushed behind the truss rod anchor. I did this by removing the fretboard four frets back from the end of the neck and grafted in hard maple behind the anchor (I have pics of this process should you like to see). I chose not to touch up the score line along the glue joint as I will leave this up to the next owner (see pictures).

The dot inlays on this particular guitar appear to be genuine pearl. This may or may not help pin down the exact date of this instrument.

I also removed, doweled (with mahogany), and touched up two screw holes that were made by the previous owner in the back of the body (see pictures). I used nitro lacquer for this process and the repairs turned out cleanly.

There was an old Oahu tailpiece on the guitar when I received it. I have doweled and sealed the screw holes for this tailpiece (see pictures).

It appears the the inserts are original as they have some yellow paint still on them. They are full length inserts, not the short .5" ones typical of 1955. The bridge came to me with no bridge so I put a tone pros locking, aged nickel bridge on it.

The tuner buttons have definitely shrunk but seem to be solid. I will leave them original and let the future owner decide should they want to swap them out. At least one of the tuners is bent but functions fine.

The neck is running straight and the guitar is playing/intonating great. The action with D'Addario 10's on it is 1.5mm treble side @ 12th fret and 2mm bass side @ 12th fret. There is still some room on the bridge to go lower but I doubt you will want to lower it. The original nut is in place and has been shimmed with a .020" hard maple shim.

Comes with an old case - I believe it is original. I am happy to provide pictures of this as well or anything on the guitar for that matter. Reverb limits me to 25 pictures so I uploaded what I felt were the most helpful pictures.

Guitar will be packed and shipped with care. It will also be insured for its full value with a signature required by the recipient. Should any damage occur in transit, you must retain all original packaging in order for an insurance claim to be process. Continental U.S. only.

Please ask any and all questions prior to buying. This guitar is being sold as is and no returns will be accepted. I have done my best to provide the history of the instrument as well as to document the work I have performed. Thank you!
