Pre Owned Epiphone Les Paul Modern Pro Electric, Ebony
No case or bag
Weight 8lbs 15.4oz
The Epiphone Les Paul Modern Pro in Ebony/black is a modernized take on the classic Les Paul: traditional mahogany-and-maple construction, but with a lighter body, comfortable neck, and more versatile electronics.
What it offers
- Body: Mahogany with a maple cap, giving it the familiar Les Paul combination of warmth, sustain, and brightness. The body uses modern weight relief to make it more comfortable than a traditional heavy Les Paul.
- Finish: Gloss Ebony/black, with cream binding and nickel hardware. It has a classic, understated Les Paul appearance.
- Neck: Mahogany with a fast ’60s SlimTaper C profile. The 24.75" scale and 12" fingerboard radius make it comfortable for both rhythm playing and lead work
- Pickups: Two Epiphone Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers, producing the thick, warm Les Paul sound while retaining enough clarity for rock, blues, and higher-gain playing.
- Coil splitting: Push/pull volume controls let you split the humbuckers for brighter, more single-coil-like sounds.
- Phase switching: The push/pull controls also provide phase switching, giving you a thinner, nasal/out-of-phase tone for certain effects.
- Hardware: LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar, Graph Tech nut, and Grover Rotomatic tuners for solid tuning stability.
How it sounds
It's fundamentally a Les Paul sound: warm, thick, sustaining, and powerful. The neck pickup is particularly suited to bluesy leads, classic rock, and smooth solos, while the bridge pickup can deliver everything from crunchy classic-rock tones to heavier modern distortion.
The coil-split feature makes it considerably more versatile than a conventional Les Paul. You can go from fat humbucker tones → brighter single-coil-style sounds → out-of-phase textures without changing guitars.
Overall
I'd describe the Modern Pro as a Les Paul for someone who wants the classic look and tone but doesn't want a completely traditional instrument. The weight relief, SlimTaper neck, upper-fret access, coil splitting, and phase switching make it more flexible and comfortable than a vintage-style Les Paul.
