Collings 2010 Collings OM1 Mh Custom Deep Body – Bill Collings Era | All Honduran Mahogany | K&K Pure Mini | OHSC 2010
Offered here is a beautiful 2010 Collings OM1 Mh Custom Deep Body, signed by Bill Collings on the interior label, a detail that has become increasingly desirable among Collings collectors and enthusiasts.
This guitar was originally shipped on February 24, 2010 to Artisan Guitars in Franklin, Tennessee. I do not know exactly how many were produced with this particular combination of specifications, but it is a very uncommon custom build. Between the Deep Body option, all-Honduran mahogany construction, and the upgraded appointments, this is the kind of Collings that does not surface often.
This is far from a standard OM1. It is a custom-ordered instrument featuring several premium appointments, most notably the Deep Body option, which increases the body depth from the standard 4" to 4 7/8", along with an abalone rosette and other tasteful upgrades.
One of the defining characteristics of this guitar is the wood selection. Collings has long been known for holding exceptionally high standards for their all-mahogany instruments, often going extended periods without building them if the available Honduran mahogany does not meet their requirements. This example showcases exactly why. The grain throughout the top, back, sides, and neck is absolutely spectacular, with the kind of premium Honduran mahogany that made Bill Collings famous.
Tonally, this guitar has everything players love about an all-mahogany Collings: a dry, woody, crystal-clear voice with exceptional responsiveness and articulation. The Deep Body option adds just enough extra air volume to give the guitar noticeably more low-end authority than a standard OM, but in a very tasteful way. It never gets into dreadnought territory or becomes boomy. Instead, it simply rounds out the sound with a little more warmth, depth, and fullness while retaining the balance and clarity that make OMs so versatile.
Condition is exceptional for its age. While I will conservatively list it as Excellent, it is honestly very minty overall. The only real evidence of use is some light swirling on the pickguard and the faintest handling marks you'd expect from careful ownership. The ebony fingerboard is spectacular, and the frets show barely any wear.
A K&K Pure Mini was professionally installed recently, at the same time the guitar received a complete setup from a long-time luthier. It is fully sorted and ready to play, whether at home, in the studio, or on stage. It's spent his entire life at a climate controlled and non smoking home studio.
The ebony Waverly tuners, tortoise binding with black/white/black top purfling, abalone rosette, and understated Style 1 appointments round out the package beautifully. Nothing feels overdone. It is elegant, purposeful, and unmistakably Collings.
This is a truly special Bill Collings-era custom build that would be difficult to duplicate today.
