1916 Gibson Style A Mandolin
1916 Gibson Style A Mandolin – Serial #29496
I’m selling a Gibson Style A mandolin, serial number 29496, which dates to around 1916. It was made by the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Co. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I received it from my late grandfather, who played it as part of various bands that he would perform with for fun. After his passing, it has been sitting in closets and needs to go to someone who will properly take care of it.
The original Gibson label is still inside the mandolin and shows the Style A model and serial number.
The mandolin is in good condition for its age, with the normal wear you would expect from a roughly 110-year-old instrument. The finish, pickguard, tuners, tailpiece, and bridge all appear original with an early Gibson Style A. However, I’m not sure if anything has been replaced over the years. From what I can tell, most, if not all, of it is original. I have not made any modifications or changes to it.
The hard-shell case is included, but the case is not original to the mandolin. It does fit the mandolin well.
As far as I can tell, this is a really nice early Gibson mandolin. It is physically located in Phoenix, AZ.
