Model: 2012 Gibson Custom Shop Historic Collection 1959 Les Paul Reissue (R9)
This is a Beautiful Guitar to see and play! I'm 71 years old, played in my first working band at age 10. Over the years I've played a lot of Les Pauls - and 11 years ago I played this one in series of LP's over a week trying to find The One - and this was it.
I played an original 1959 LP back to back with this one at the end of that week, and there was no question in my mind, ears or hands - I could have purchased either one or both at the time. But I knew this was The One - and I believe you'll feel the same way I did the first time you play this guitar.
I have a genetic nerve disorder that has taken me off the market - so it is time for me to let go and release it into the hands of someone that appreciates a guitar that makes you sound better than you really are.
The Sustain is so strong, it was too much for certain songs I've recorded with it. I treasure the way the Boutique Tone Caps (see below) interact when you roll back the tone controls, the overall tone seems to bloom with a little extra thickness. And I should mention the Fretboard feels like one big Sweet Spot. I have two friends that have original '59 LP's that were jealous when I brought this one over for Les Paul "Show and Tell"!
I've included the original tailpiece I replaced with a Gibson TP-6 with Fine Tuners, so you'll have both. There are dings and light scratches that I've highlighted with red circles in the photos, it is a 14 year old instrument that was played by one other person than myself over those years. We both did all we could to keep it pristine but string changes and a neck hanger have taken their cosmetic toll. But when you take this guitar out of the case, look it over and play it - you'll say this is a Beautiful Guitar!

Tone Caps: A notable feature found in select 2012 R9 builds is the presence of premium, high-end internal yellow Musicap .022K tone capacitors in the control cavity, diverging from the more common striped faux-Bumblebee capacitors standard on standard production lines. These yellow film capacitors are prized for their tight tolerances and transparent signal roll-off, letting the articulation of the "Wound by PS" humbuckers shine through cleanly when you back down the tone knobs.
I have included pictures of the Pickups and the Control Cavity.
Some of the pictures show the Brass Pickup Selector Switch Tip I installed. I have restored the Original Amber Switch Tip.
