Because I am not a Keilwerth dealer I cannot list as new, but this is a New Julius Keilwerth MKX Professional Tenor Saxophone that was Purchased Brand New in Late July 2026, and it has been inspected by a professional to verify setup and played for less than 30 minutes to verify playability. No adjustments were needed, and it plays beautifully.

An amazing blend of French feel and a German depth of tone, the MKX was a limited-production, German-made professional model. While production numbers haven’t been released, I believe only a few hundred gold tenors were produced from 2013-2019 before it was discontinued for production capacity concerns on their better known SX90R model. As a result, these horns are rarely available and are becoming increasingly sought after by Keilwerth enthusiasts and collectors.

The MKX delivers the rich, powerful Keilwerth sound while offering modern ergonomics familiar to players coming from Selmer or Yamaha. It features premium German craftsmanship, top of the line Pisoni pads with metal resonators, straight tone holes, and a beautiful gold lacquer finish. I personally feel the intonation is much better and the feel reminds me of a modern take on a Selmer Mark VI or a Buffet Crampon Superdynaction. It has a sweet concert tone when paired with the right mouthpiece, but when you put a jazz style mouthpiece on it, it will growl with the best of them.

From Keilwerth:
The Julius Keilwerth MKX Series marks the next evolution of the saxophone for this historic brand. By combining tonal characteristics of the legendary SX90R along with physical characteristics reminiscent of vintage saxophones, the MKX Series allows the player to have the best of both worlds; a modern sound with a vintage feel. The name MKX was chosen to pay tribute to those who have contributed to or inspired the development of this new line. The letters "MK" represent Markneukirchen, the historic town in the same region of eastern Germany where the Julius Keilwerth brand began in 1925. Boasting a long history of musical instrument makers and manufacturers, Markneukirchen is now home to the factory and skilled workers who carry on the traditions of their forefathers, and whose craftsmanship is essential to the quality of this instrument.

In honoring the kinship to the legendary Julius Keilwerth SX90R Series, the letter "X" reminds us of the influence and inspiration from those who paved the way for our success. While the MKX and SX90R series do share some characteristics, they can be likened to cousins who share a common blood line, but have individual qualities and personalities that allow them a unique voice of their own. The Julius Keilwerth MKX Series is a professional level saxophone that will offer German quality engineering and manufacturing at prices competitive to the global scale, and allow a new generation of musicians to use Keilwerth Saxophones in bringing their voice to the world stage.

Please contact me for any inspections prior to purchase as this is sold as described and is not eligible for returns. It does not include the mouthpiece or ligature, they are only in the first picture because the pic was taken immediately after the test play. While I am not aware of scratches, all sellers must cover themselves by stating any instrument can have tiny scratches if test played. The MKX was purchased recently, leak tested and inspected by a professional to verify setup, then test played. This is an amazing sax.
