This Onkyo TX-2500 MKII has received a thorough component-level restoration and has been fully tested and adjusted. The restoration included replacement of all the electrolytic capacitors throughout the receiver, restoration of the FM servo-lock/tuning system, amplifier adjustments, a complete LED indicator/lamp conversion and has been fully documented on video and can be made available upon buyer request.
RESTORATION WORK PERFORMED:
- Replaced all electrolytic capacitors throughout the receiver including the power sections and rectifier board
- Replaced the 8200uF 50V filter capacitors
- Replaced the low-leakage electrolytic capacitors with WIMA capacitors throughout
- Replaced other low-capacitance caps with WIMA where appropriate, the tone board notably
- Replaced the switching resistors associated with the TUNED and LOCKED indicator circuits
- Replaced corroded diodes found on the amplifier board
- Replaced all dial/indicator lamps with LEDs and 560 Ohm 1W bleeding resistors on the TUNED and LOCKED lamps
- Installed an e-clip on the tuning pulley shaft that was missing
- Tested the output transistors (good!) and replaced the mica pads with new ones and applied new thermal grease
FM SERVO-LOCK SYSTEM:
The servo-lock tuning system has been tested and adjusted and locks on really well with FM muting enabled and the TUNED/LOCKED indicators operate correctly.
The receiver was tested across multiple FM stations, including with a less-than-perfect antenna, and the servo-lock system performed very well.
AMPLIFIER:
Both channels have been checked for proper DC offset and the idling current has been adjusted to specification.
LED CONVERSION:
The original incandescent indicator lamps have been replaced with LEDs and bleeder resistors added to the LOCKED and TUNED lamp leads. The result is a clean, bright, consistent display while reducing heat generated inside the receiver.
CONDITION:
Please examine the pics and video for the cosmetic condition. The Onkyo logo on the front of the receiver has been partially rubbed off, but the rest of the markings are clear. It was missing two of the cover screws on the sides and have been replaced with screws that fit, but don't match the originals. The wood vinyl chassis cover is in really good condition and there are no dents or major scratches on it. The plastic LOCKED, TUNED and STEREO lamp housings were toast so, not having a 3-D printer, I replaced them with high density foam cutouts I made. They hold the lamps and fit into the slots. I'll include two of the old, crusty plastic original housings with the shipment so you can have them printed if you want. The AM antenna was most assuredly used as a handle to lift it at some point in its life and was broken off and is gone.
FUNCTIONAL CONDITION:
The receiver has been thoroughly tested following restoration. FM reception, PHONO, and AUX (Tape input), stereo operation, muting, tuning meter, servo locking, tuned/locked indicators and both amplifier channels have been checked.
