The Gretsch G5427TG Limited Edition Electromatic Hollowbody Single-Cut in Midnight Sapphire is a vintage-styled, fully hollow electric guitar with Gretsch’s characteristic twang, chime, and punch. It’s essentially a more affordable Electromatic version of the classic Gretsch hollowbody formula.

• Body: Laminated maple, fully hollow, single-cutaway
• Bracing: Trestle bracing, which helps control feedback while adding attack and sustain
• Pickups: Dual FT-5E Filter'Tron humbuckers
• Bridge: Adjusto-Matic
• Tailpiece: Bigsby vibrato
• Neck: Maple
• Fingerboard: Laurel
• Finish: Midnight Sapphire — a deep blue finish
• Hardware: Gold, which gives it the particularly flashy Gretsch appearance
• Controls: Individual pickup volume controls, master volume, master tone, and 3-way pickup selector

Gretsch's hollowbody design is particularly associated with rockabilly, country, jazz, blues, classic rock and roots music, although the Filter'Tron pickups make it quite versatile. Gretsch describes the related Electromatic hollowbody platform as producing a bold, dynamic and articulate sound.

What it sounds like

Think of the sound as sitting somewhere between a traditional jazz hollowbody and a bright Fender-style guitar:

Clean:
Very clear and sparkly, with a pronounced attack and plenty of upper-midrange definition.

With a little overdrive:
You get that classic Gretsch "twang" and bite, which works especially well for rockabilly, country and 1950s/60s-style rock.

With heavier gain:
The hollow body can give you a big, resonant sound, although it's not primarily designed as a high-gain metal/modern-rock guitar. The trestle bracing helps make it more manageable at volume than a completely unbraced hollowbody.

The "TG" designation is significant because this version has the gold hardware and Bigsby, giving it a more upscale appearance than the standard G5427T. It's part of the Electromatic line rather than Gretsch's Professional Collection, so you're getting the classic Gretsch construction and aesthetic without paying Professional-series prices.
